Counselling Psychologist & Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

Charlotte Rose, DCounsPsych.
My areas of expertise include interpersonal conflict; identity; troubled eating; and body focussed distress.
Having worked across several mental health services over the last 20 years, my combined professional trainings and background help me to also hold the bigger physiological, psychological, and social picture in mind. I am interested in what might be held at the level of unconscious, or intermittently conscious experience; in relation to bodily responses and functions, other people, and past and present experiences in the world.
I care deeply about anti-racist and anti-discriminatory practice. While it should go without saying, this is sadly not always the case; so I will therefore also state my commitment to transgender peoples’ right to existence, dignity, protection, and joy.
My research aims to inform sensitive understanding of, and response to, mental distress. I spent my doctorate researching the nuanced meanings encoded in the troubled eating and bodies of queer people with eating disorders.
My commitment to recognising the impact of violence; oppression; and ostracisation, includes attending to the often-obscured stories of resistance in therapy.

Professional Experience
In addition to having been in private practice since 2020, I have extensive experience in other settings.
I’ve worked in local NHS eating disorder services as a therapist; Clinical Lead; and Principal Psychological Therapist, for the last thirteen years.
During this time, I’ve also trained therapists with the University of Exeter; and provided psychodynamic psychotherapy with the Bristol Complex Psychological Intervention NHS mental health service.
Prior to this, I worked as a therapist for a charity, seeing people with OCD; PTSD; depression; panic; health, and social anxiety.
My career began as a mental health nurse, working with in-patient, community, and early psychosis teams. My last nursing position was in 2010, when I worked as a Clinical Mental Nurse Consultant in A&E.
